Rebuild. Strengthen. Restore.
What Are Collagen-Stimulating Treatments and How Do They Work?
Collagen stimulating treatments are advanced injectable biostimulators designed to encourage your body to produce new collagen over time, helping restore the skin's natural structural support and improve firmness, elasticity and overall skin quality.
Different products stimulate collagen through different biological mechanisms.
Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), used in Sculptra®, is a biodegradable synthetic polymer that has been used in medicine for many years, including in dissolvable surgical sutures and orthopaedic implants. When injected into the skin, PLLA creates a controlled inflammatory response that activates the body's natural healing process, gradually encouraging the production of new collagen and resulting in progressive structural renewal over several months.
Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA), used in Radiesse®, is a synthetic form of a naturally occurring mineral that is chemically similar to the calcium found in bones and teeth. It consists of microscopic CaHA microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. The gel provides immediate support, while the microspheres act as a scaffold that encourages the body to gradually lay down new collagen as they are naturally broken down and absorbed.
Newer hybrid collagen stimulators combine a collagen-stimulating ingredient with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found within the skin that attracts and retains water. HarmonyCa® combines cross-linked hyaluronic acid with CaHA to provide immediate lifting alongside progressive collagen stimulation. Juvelook® and Lenisna® combine non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid with Poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA), a next-generation biodegradable polymer related to PLLA, to improve hydration, skin quality and stimulate gradual collagen production.
Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which primarily restore lost volume immediately, collagen stimulators work progressively. Results develop over several weeks to months as your body naturally produces new collagen, creating subtle, long-lasting improvements in skin firmness, facial support and overall skin quality.
Every consultation, assessment and treatment is personally carried out by Silvie, Independent Nurse Prescriber. Treatment recommendations are carefully tailored to your anatomy, skin quality and long-term aesthetic goals.

Restores skin thickness and improves the appearance of ageing hands by stimulating collagen production.
What Results Can I Expect and How Long Do They Last?
Results develop gradually as new collagen is produced and are intentionally subtle, creating progressive improvements rather than immediate transformation.
Initial improvements may be seen within several weeks, with collagen production continuing for several months. Depending on the treatment selected, results typically last 18–24 months, with maintenance treatments helping to prolong the benefits.
Who Are Collagen Stimulating Treatments Suitable For?
These treatments are particularly suitable for individuals experiencing:
Loss of facial volume
Skin laxity
Age-related collagen loss
Hollow cheeks or temples
Structural facial ageing
Thinning skin
Neck laxity
Patients seeking long-term, natural rejuvenation rather than immediate volumisation
Are the Treatments Painful?
Most patients describe the treatment as very well tolerated. Local anaesthetic is incorporated into many collagen-stimulating products or can be used where appropriate to maximise comfort during treatment.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising are the most common side effects and usually settle within a few days. As with all injectable treatments, rarer complications will be discussed fully during your consultation.
Which Collagen Stimulator Is Right for Me?
Each collagen-stimulating treatment has unique properties and is designed for different concerns, treatment areas and levels of structural ageing.
During your consultation, Silvie will assess your skin, facial anatomy and treatment goals before recommending the most appropriate treatment or combination of treatments to achieve natural, progressive and long-lasting results.
What Is the Aftercare Advice?

For treatments such as Sculptra®, specific massage instructions will also be provided where appropriate to optimise results.
Treatment options:
-
Poly-L-lactic acid gradually stimulates your body's own collagen production through a controlled inflammatory response, restoring facial structure and improving skin quality over several months.
Recommended protocol: 2–4 treatments, approximately 6–8 weeks apart.
-
Calcium Hydroxylapatite provides an immediate supportive scaffold before stimulating new collagen production, making it ideal for skin laxity and improving skin firmness.
Recommended protocol: 1–3 treatments, approximately 3 months apart.
-
Combines hyaluronic acid for immediate lifting with Calcium Hydroxylapatite to stimulate long-term collagen production, offering both immediate and progressive improvement.
Recommended protocol: Usually one treatment, with maintenance every 12–18 months if required.
-
A hybrid injectable combining Poly-D,L-Lactic Acid (PDLLA) with hyaluronic acid to improve skin quality, fine lines and collagen production while providing subtle hydration.
Recommended protocol: 3 treatments, 4–6 weeks apart.recommended every 6–9 months.
-
A higher-concentration PDLLA collagen stimulator designed for areas requiring greater structural support and volume restoration through progressive collagen regeneration.
Recommended protocol: 2–3 treatments, 6–8 weeks apart.
