Restore. Refine. Rebalance.

What are Dermal Fillers and How Do They Work?

Dermal fillers are injectable gels made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found within the skin. They can be used to restore lost volume, enhance facial contours, improve facial proportions and soften deeper lines and folds.

One of the advantages of hyaluronic acid fillers is that they are reversible. If required, the filler can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase, although this is rarely necessary when treatment is carefully planned and performed.

At Silvie Aesthetics & Wellness, every consultation, assessment and treatment is personally carried out by Silvie, Independent Nurse Prescriber. Treatment recommendations are tailored to your individual anatomy, concerns and aesthetic goals, with a focus on achieving natural-looking, age-intelligent results.

Treatment Explained

Treatment areas:

What Results can I expect and how long do they last?

Dermal fillers can restore lost volume, enhance facial contours, improve facial balance and soften deeper lines and folds. Results are visible immediately, although the final outcome continues to settle over the following 2–4 weeks. Depending on the treatment area, product used and individual factors, results typically last between 6–18 months.

Are the injections painful?

Most clients experience minimal discomfort. Many dermal fillers contain a local anaesthetic to improve comfort during treatment, and additional numbing cream can be used where appropriate. Treatment is generally well tolerated.

Are there any side effects?

Common side effects include temporary swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness and minor asymmetry during the settling period. Rare but more serious complications will be discussed fully during your consultation to ensure you can make an informed decision about treatment.

What is the aftercare advice?

Follwing treatment, avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, alcohol and unnecessary pressure on the treated area for 24–48 hours. Mild swelling and bruising are normal and usually settle within a few days. You will be provided with personalised aftercare advice and ongoing support should you have any concerns.

What Dermal Filler Brands Do You Use?

There are hundreds of dermal filler products available in the UK, with varying levels of clinical evidence, safety data and longevity. At Silvie Aesthetics & Wellness, I carefully select products from well-established manufacturers with strong safety records and a long history of use in aesthetic medicine.

I primarily use the Teosyal® range of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, which has been used internationally for more than 20 years and is recognised for its versatility, natural-looking results and excellent safety profile. For selected indications, I may also use products from the Juvéderm® range by Allergan Aesthetics, including Volbella®, which has been widely used worldwide for many years.

The most appropriate product will be selected following consultation and assessment, taking into account your anatomy, treatment area and desired outcome. Every recommendation is made with a focus on achieving balanced, natural-looking results rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
